The city of Calabar was filled with excitement as the Screening Committee of the Niger Delta Games Edo 2025 arrived to screen athletes from Cross River State. The exercise, led by Sir Wodi Braveman, Mr, Moses Ita, Vice Chairman and Mr Tonex member was held at the U.J. Esuene Stadium, Calabar Enmas, and aimed at selecting qualified and eligible athletes for the competition.
Team Cross River athletes, currently camping in Calabar, participated fully in the screening, alongside The Cross River state Liaison Committee, coaches and sports officials. The Chairman of the Cross River State Sports Commission and Liaison Committee, Hon. Etta Lawrence, welcomed the committee and encouraged athletes to remain disciplined, focused, and committed.
Sir Wodi Braveman began with a briefing for coaches and secretaries, emphasizing proper age documentation and the presentation of only indigenous athletes. He also addressed questions raised by stakeholders.
The committee then conducted a thorough and transparent screening, including document verification and performance assessment. At the end, only qualified athletes were shortlisted, marking a significant step in the state’s preparation for the Niger Delta Games Edo 2025.
